First up, I’m rather excited on this one, wish I had more time on my hands but never mind. I’ve begun writing a horror screenplay with the talented James Hazlehurst, another member from ukauthors. We’re putting our minds together and we hope to write a damn good horror script.
We are both fans of horror but lately in the film world, we both feel that recent films are not quite what they used to be. Oh, there are the odd jumps and scares in the movies, but they don’t pray on your mind anymore.
Well apart from the film Grudge, this was a good one. The main bit that sticks in my head is one of the biggest no, no’s, in horror, well to me it does. The watcher (the audience) always needs a safe place to hide, and that safe place is always under our bed covers, don’t deny it, we all do it. And what did they do in the movie? They had a scene where the evil being gets under the quilt and grabs her. Now that ain’t right. I slept with my light on for days after that and I was too afraid to look under the quilt once I was lying there.
Any way back to our script, we have a basic idea of the plot. At the moment, we are researching deeper into the horror world, looking at what scares us, and we are learning quite a bit. James has the knowledge on the how to do screenplays, I don’t have a clue. As for me, well…I’ve got the sick mind…
I’m still typing my novel Barry up and adding bits and pieces to it. I keep changing the ending, but I think I’m satisfied with the one I have now. So hopefully, this time next month he will be finished and ready for a good hard thorough edit.
As for my short stories, I had sent two stories out to e-zines, but I haven’t heard anything back yet. I’ve recently subscribed to a couple of horror magazines, I’ve the latest issues, and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far. And I plan to send a story or two to them, once I’ve re-edited again.
I've also sent a story to a competition. Obviously, I won’t hear anything back yet. However, when I do I shall let you know.
So far, I’m managing to stick to my new years resolutions. Well apart from the writing more bit. I need to set myself certain times each day for this.
